Lee’s Summit City Guide
Lee’s Summit, Missouri is a small city about 20 miles southwest of Kansas City (Missouri, that is, not Kansas City, Kansas) with a population of 91,364. CNN/Money ranked it number 27 on its 100 Best Cities to Live in the U.S. list. Between this infamy and its four-season humid continental climate (hot and muggy in the summer, cold and dry in the winter), Lee’s Summit, Missouri makes a great place to live.
In 1865, this quaint town was named after early settler and postmaster Dr. Pleasant John Graves Lea who was killed in the American Civil War on his farm which was located on the highest point in town. Due to a misspelling, the town was officially called Lee’s Summit and not Lea’s Summit. If you’re interested in history, check out Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery where many local notable people are buried, like Rick Roeber, the barefoot runner, and all four members of the James-Younger Gang.

For some relaxing entertainment, head over to Blue Springs 8 Movie Theater, which has an ongoing “Too Good Tuesday” special where movie tickets are $5 and popcorn and soda combos are just $1.
