Proof of a homeowner/renter insurance policy prior
I received a call when I requested on line to reserve a unit and went through the details of my check-in. Unfortunately, I was not made aware that prior to moving in, you have to show that you have insurance coverage. So, Saturday comes around, rent the truck, load the truck and call EZ storage to let them know I am ready to move in. As a part of this final step, I am informed that I will need to show proof of insurance (Agent doesn't work on weekends, and all the insurance documents are stored away for the move. I explained when the agent is in the office on Monday, I can have the documents sent in. That was not acceptable to them, I was required to show proof of insurance for move in. So, for $10,000 of total coverage, they stuck me for $47 for ONE MONTH of insurance. I came in on Monday and explained that I had the policy available and wanted to find out who I needed to send it to, and if I could get a prorated refund of the $47 charge. They indicated that they could not do this.
I would recommend that corporate refines thier initial process, making it very clear that the renter needs to have proof of insurance. And I would recommend that corporate negotiates a better deal with their insurance provider, allowing prorated refunds, which is very common for the insurance industry.
