Central Self Storage is the worst business I have ever encountered!

We rented a storage unit at the Central Self Storage in Star, Idaho, paid for a month plus setup fees as instructed, put some stuff in the unit so all seemed good, but 11 days later on the weekend we were scheduled to move out of our house we were locked out of the unit for the whole weekend. Friday afternoon after driving 30 miles with a load of stuff to put in the unit, we get there and find that we are locked out. It was during business hours, but the office was closed so I called the number on the door and got an offsite\offshore customer service person that said they couldn't do anything, but they would have their manager call me right back and they would help me get in. We waited there at the storage facility for 1.5 hours hoping to get someone to help us get into our storage unit and we called customer service 2 more times before we finally gave up and drove back home with the load of stuff. We tried calling and emailing multiple times Saturday with no response even though their voicemail said their office was open. Finally got a call from the local manager Tuesday (4 days later). I thought maybe they would do something at least half way nice to make up for all the grief and money they cost us, but all they would do was waive the bogus late fees which were added to our account due to their mistake, and they gave us about 4 days of rent which basically amounts to nothing in comparison to all the grief and money their mistake cost us. In summary, they have an onsite office which has been closed every time I have been there during normal business hours, and they have an offsite/offshore call center that does answer the phone if you call with a problem but they can't help you, and their system seems to be very prone to making mistakes, so if a problem arises you may not have access to your storage unit for days based on our experience. I can whole heartedly say that Central Self Storage is the worst business I have ever encountered! Thank you, Brent Bowman

It seems like the office staff is short-handed.

The facility is a little hard to find, being tucked away behind a strip mall. It's hard to review, given that I have only rented there for two days. They snow plowed the streets, which I appreciated. It appears to be secure. The office is clean. They have TV cameras linked to the office. I like that.

Constant renting issues and price increase after 6 months

I reserved a unit here and had issues during check in. It's rare that anyone is in the office during work hours, including the manager. Once I finally got it worked out (which took over an hour with the moving crew sitting in their truck waiting), I was finally able to unload my stuff into a unit. Well, after only 6 months of being there they raised my rates by 10% which was unbelievable! Next, my dad was moving to the area and I suggested he reserve a unit at the same facility to make things easy for us to move things between units. He reserved the unit and then shows up with a moving crew, only to find out they had rented it out from underneath him (after an hour of being on the phone with their corporate office trying to figure things out). Again, this was at 11:00 a.m. on a Wednesday and nobody was in the office. He's an elderly man and was so frustrated he left and had the movers unload everything in his garage (which completely filled it up). This means he'll have to pay another moving company to move all his belongings to another storage unit once he reserves one. He was frustrated and so am I since this seems to be the norm at this location. I have a call into the manager and am waiting for her to call me back. We'll see how she handle this situation.

Rented a second unit and truck

Had to rent a second unit and the truck to move. Had issues and couldn't get the refrigerator dolly and was very understanding with the situation. Was able to get it 2 days later. Got it and returned it to the storage office. Thanks for being so understanding .

Horrible customer service!!

I rented a storage unit online and put my card number in and thought it was set up for auto pay on the monthly storage fees. Then I received a late notice 30 days later. I called the number on the notice and asked to be set up for auto pay, but the customer service rep could not set it up for me because someone at the Star office had to do so and she would have them call me. I then tried to put my card in to pay the fees several times, each time I was told I had to call a general number to pay. When I called that number, I was put on hold for a long time, and then told again that the customer service rep could not take my card to pay the bill, and someone from the Star office had to call me. Then I got another late notice and late fee. I finally got a number directly to the Star office and tried to pay, but at this point the lady was rude and told me I should have driven down to the Star office to take care of things and took no responsibility for the website not taking my payment and the customer service reps on the phone not being able to process my payment. I work in Boise and cannot drive down to Star during the week. I have never had such a hard time paying a bill. Then the office expected me to pay for multiple late notice fees. I would steer clear of this office.

I would like to say I had a chance to go with another storage facility but the customer service and value I received from Central Storage will keep me a customer for years to come. I missed office hours by 20 minutes on a Saturday and had to have some paperwork finished in order to complete my move in. I called the company and within 15 minutes one of the representatives arrived and helped with with my move in paperwork and had me moving in within minutes! No hassle and no bother according to the woman that helped me! My unit was clean and available just as promised!

They have a gate with a complex code to get in and out. It is only open 7 am to 10 pm so you don't have 24 access to your things but this keeps it safer. The staff are friendly. The units are very nice.It is a little out of the way for me to get to but it's worth the price.

So far, great customer service. Front office is very friendly. Supplies offered are competitively priced. FYI: Units do vary from what is listed- some are not drive-up, some have 8' door whereas others do not, some are corner units. If you reserve/hold a unit, the price can increase upon arrival depending on how many units have been rented since your reservation. Luckily, I only had slight variations and still got what I needed.

The facility must be newer because it is super clean! The staff are friendly and very helpful, we asked to see some units and there was no hesitation to drop everything and take us to them. We have an indoor climate controlled unit and the price is reasonable and the ceiling height is 10 ft in there so it's a lot of room per unit. Highly recommend this place!

Great Location and Staff

We are moving from Cascade and waiting for our house to be built in Eagle. The staff (Tina) in Star was easy to work with and really helpful. We ended up moving into a 12 x 20 for furniture and boxes and a 5 x 10 for stuff we may need during our "homeless" state. Also got an RV spot which was a lot bigger than anywhere else. Tina accommodated us with no problems. And it is close to where we're building so a short move-in drive. Can't ask for more.

We selected this unit even though we had to drive about 7 miles from our home in Meridian - because the price was about 20% lower than close-in units; and they offered a free 1st or 2nd month rent. This was true even though we told the manager we'd only need the unit until our house sold, and was told that was fine... friendly staff even offered a significant discount on boxes, which we didn't even ask for.
