Mechanicsburg City Guide

Contrary to popular belief, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania is not home to the largest number of mechanics in the country. It is, however, the birthplace of Poison lead singer Bret Michaels. This small town boasts a population of just 8,981, so you’ll find it delightfully quiet and slow-paced. Except when Jubilee Day occurs—it’s the biggest street fair on the east coast and attracts about 60,000 people each year.

With a motto like "A Good Place to Live," you can rest assured that you will enjoy all that this town has to offer, especially its long history. Be sure to take a tour of the Sationmaster’s House, built in 1863, the Union Church, built in 1825, or the Frankenberger Tavern—not a burger joint managed by Frankenstein, but rather the oldest building (built in 1801) in Mechanicsburg.

An excellent option to store any historical artifacts that just don’t seem to go with your home décor (like that Civil Defense Volunteer Organization Uniform or carved oak prosthetic leg) is renting a self-storage unit.

If you’re more the outdoorsy type, there are plenty of parks and trails—such as Acri Meadow Park, Caledonia State Park, or the Appalachian Trail—to hike, bike, kayak, fish or just admire the scenery. If you’re only pretending to like the outdoors, head over to Climbnasium for some indoor rock climbing.

Be sure to check out the Metropolis Collective, an area with many art galleries that feature paintings, photos, and live musical performances. If club music is more your thing, you can get your groove on at Holly Inn, a venue that is more fun that it sounds with bands, dancing, karaoke, and open mic nights. For a tasty meal and more than 50 whiskey selections, try 1794 The Whiskey Rebellion, or to skip the food and go straight to the drinks, Allegro Winery is perfect for wine tastings.

A great place to store your wine collection (or whiskey…or the karaoke machine that your off-key friend won’t stay away from) is at your local self-storage facility.
