If you haven’t heard of Marlton, New Jersey, you’re not the only one. With a population of just 10,133, this small, friendly tree-lined town is the best-kept secret since crop circles. You’ll feel extra special living here as Marlton is not an actual city, but a “census-designated place” or a “concentration of population…for statistical purposes” and does not have a separate municipal government.

Marlton was founded in 1676 and got its name from the marl clay common in the area’s soil, which turned out to be a great replacement for green manure and led to a boom of farming opportunities here. This quaint town is within easy driving distance of bigger cities—like Mt. Laurel, Cherry Hill, and Philadelphia—so between that and the low unemployment rate, this is the perfect place for families.

Catch a show at Lenape Regional Performing Arts Center or have a laugh at Comedy Cabaret.

If you like spending time outdoors, there is no end to your options. Take the whole family to the Igloo Ice Rink in Mount Laurel which has two rinks and an arcade. Enjoy various sporting activities at Memorial Park. Or you can take a short drive to the Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philly, which is a hands-on museum and educational center.
