With the state of Florida being quite large– geographically speaking, we wanted to continue sharing fun facts about local cities that could be your next living destination. The next area we wanted to feature is Winter Haven, Florida.
Tania Matthews is the Marketing Director of a local Realty Company; Tania Matthews Team, serving the Central Florida area– which includes Winter Haven. They have had clients who’ve sold and purchased homes in Winter Haven, and one of their Agents lives nearby.
How Big is Winter Haven?
“I guess it really all depends on one’s definition of large. It’s definitely not a small town, but it also doesn’t compare to Orlando or Tampa. It’s a nice suburb,” says Matthews.
And because it’s a nice suburb, Matthews says it’s a great place to live.
“It’s not like you’re in a small town in the middle of nowhere. You’re actually pretty centrally located between Tampa and Orlando and minutes away from Lakeland,” explains Matthews.
A Few Area Highlights
Matthews tells us that some highlights of the area include Lego Land, Ritz Theatre, The Chain of Lakes Park; activities such as Golfing, Antiquing, and lots of water skiing/water sports for a little more adventure.
“Personally, my favorite [thing] is Lego Land. It probably has to do a lot with nostalgia, though, and a little on the fact that I’m still a child inside,” says Matthews.
And she’s right to say Lego Land is one of the favorites. The 150-acre theme park offers more than 50 rides, shows and attractions, restaurants, shopping, a botanical garden and the LEGOLAND Water Park all geared to families with children ages 2 to 12 (and kids at heart, of course).
Cost of Living in Winter Haven
“The cost of living is definitely reasonable, and thus, I would say that moving is going to be just as stressful as it would be anywhere else. There’s plenty of U-Haul locations and gas is currently around $2.00,” says Matthews.
But although it has plenty local amenities and it’s relatively close to other Florida cities, Matthews reminds us that it is a smaller suburb, so if that’s not what you’re looking for then Winter Haven may not be for you. We recommend visiting prior to a move or relocation to get a true feel for the city.
