16 Fun Facts About Dan Dotson

Dan Dotson (along with his wife Laura) is best known for his participation as an auctioneer on the popular A&E reality TV show Storage Wars. If you haven’t heard about his ongoing “difference of opinion,” shall we say, with Dave Hester, the belligerent buyer-slash-villain from the same show, you’ve probably been trapped in a storage unit for the last five years.

Because crazy brawls, violent arguments, cursing like a sailor on leave, and general imbecility always take top billing in today’s media market, you might not be aware that there’s more to Dotson than hating Hester. So here are a few fun facts about Dan Dotson for which I know you’ve been waiting on the edge of your seat:

  • His official name is Danny Allan Dotson
  • He was taught how to auctioneer at age 11
  • His company, American Auctioneers, does 2500-3000 auctions every year
  • One of his occupations is listed as “fast talker”
  • He is billed as an actor in a flick called Cockroaches (2015) which is described as “Various levels of criminals clash in their pursuit of the kidnapped Queen of England.”
  • He was a contestant on Family Feud in 1999
  • He and his wife live in Yucaipa, CA, a town 80 miles east of Los Angeles with a population of 52,536
  • Before the Spanish invasion, Yucaipa Valley was home to the Serrano Indians
  • His grandfather, Sam Fancher, was a farm auctioneer in the Ozark Mountains
  • The Ozark religion, like that of Appalachia, is primarily Baptist and Methodist
  • Appalachia is nicknamed the “Big White Ghetto”
  • On June 16, 2014, Dan suffered from a double brain aneurysm ((ok, this isn’t a fun fact, but I bet you didn’t hear about this through all the fight-with-Hester noise)
  • He (and his wife) make about $675,000 per season from A&E for Storage Wars
  • He has a net worth of $4.5 million
  • In comparison, Dave Hester is worth $3 million, Donald Trump is worth (and we’re using this word loosely) $4.5 billion, and Insane Clown Posse is worth $30 million (the grouping of these three examples is purely coincidental and should in no way be taken as lampoonery)
  • He was at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards to rattle off the more than 50 film titles in which Kevin Costner, who was being presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award, appeared

Okay, not all 16 facts are directly related to Dan Dotson. Is it my fault that 99% of the results in a Google search comes up with that stupid brawl between him and Hester? So now can we talk about something else?
