Expert Staging Home Tips

12 September 2015 by

When you’re looking to sell a home, staging is key to potential buyers falling in love. We have some staging home tips that can help you make your home more appealing and sell fast.

Pat McGeehan, CEO of Four Front Properties says that if you want to get the highest price for your home and sell it faster, you want your home to show like a model, and you don’t have to spend a fortune.

Following are low budget and easy staging tips from McGeehan.

1-Undo The Personalization

You’ll want to remove personal photos from your home decor.

“You want potential buyers to view your home as their potential home and having your family photos displayed will keep them from imagining that,” says McGeehan.

2-Pack Away as Much as You Can

Getting rid of clutter is a priority according to McGeehan. That will allow buyers to focus on your house. McGeehan also suggests to keep kitchen and bathroom counter-tops clean, clear and open.

“If you have a garage, keep everything you’ve packed away in boxes neatly stacked in a corner. Renting a small storage unit may also be something to consider,” suggests McGeehan.

3- Make it Special

Make each room special. If you can show each room as having a specific purpose it will, again, help the potential buyers see themselves in the home.

McGeehan adds that closets should be neat and organized. Adding fresh, neutral paint colors is best to give an appealing, clean and new appearance to your home.

4- Shine Bright!

McGeehan says that your home should “shine from top to bottom.”

When buyers see or smell something displeasing when they walk in, they will immediately get turned off and won’t be able to see the good features of your home. McGeehan suggests that you clean and use fresh scent deodorizers before every showing.

5- Make a Great Impression

“You only have one chance to make a first impression and you want your home to stand out. Curb appeal is just as important as cleaning the inside of the home, so do not overlook your home’s exterior,” adds McGeehan.

“Mow the lawn and make sure the sidewalk and driveway are clean. Power washing the exterior of your home will make it look like new…Mulch is also a cheap way to cover a multitude of sins; it makes everything look neat and tidy,” explains McGeehan.

By taking these expert tips and adapting to your own situation and home, you’re likely to have better home showings, store your valuables ahead of time and really increase the appeal of your property.
