Everybody loves a bargain. If you’re like me, you’ve looked at a garage sale item and instantaneously gone from “Oh, this is so cute…” to “This is worth serious dough. I’ll sell it on eBay!”
Then something inside you triggers your Inner Negotiator. The item is marked $10 but you find yourself yelling, “I’ll give you three dollars! THREE DOLLARS!”
Three dollars it is, and the garage sale host thanks you cordially and tells you to have a nice day, preferably somewhere else.
If Dave Hester can do it…
You’ve got the fever. You know that you can buy something for ten cents and sell it for $20—or at least you think you can. You’ve been watching shows like “Flea Market Flip” and “Storage Wars” and you are convinced that all you need is a circular sander and some paint. Hey, who’s going to stop you from buying a bookshelf for $15 and repurposing it, to the tune of $350? You’ve seen it. You can do it, too, right?
You might be thinking that the only thing better than showing up at a garage sale at 6 a.m. after two lattés would be if Dave Hester himself were there with you. And now, your dream might just be coming true.
The ever-engaging Dave, of “Storage Wars” fame, has his own shop on eBay. You don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn and put on your favorite garage-sale bowling shirt. Just log into eBay, any time day or night, and see what Dave has found in his storage unit scavenger hunts. Who knows? There could be a diamond in the rough waiting for you, just a simple bid away.
Dave Hester’s eBay store has sold more than 1,500 items. The reviews, so far, are 100% positive. Some of the reviews hint that the buyer clearly knows he (or she) is buying from Dave Hester. Here’s a review the Dave Hester store received from the buyer of a Star Wars collectible: “Fantastic seller! Fast shipment, great communication! YUPPPPPPP!”
Should I really buy from Dave Hester? (Yuuup.)
Personally, I like the idea of having an expert on my side. If Hester thought something was worth buying, then who am I to question it? On a recent review of his eBay store, I found an assortment of goodies from designer shoes to a kayak frame. Even though I’m not in the market for either, I couldn’t help but think of the resale value…
At its best, “Storage Wars” represents the epitome of upcycling: take something that was cast aside, tucked away, forgotten even, and find its real value. Then, if you have the mind to do so, polish it up and add even more value on top of that.
Once you’ve had the chance to look at Dave’s store, you might be wondering what he’s up to and how you could take a glimpse into what he values in the world of auctioneering. According to his website, he’s actively involved in auctioneering, including:
- Moving & Storage
- Abandoned Personal Property
If your schedule doesn’t permit attending auctions across the country, you can always keep tabs on Dave Hester’s eBay shop. Who knows? He may just happen upon the treasure you’ve always been searching for.
Even if you didn’t know you wanted it.
