It has been nearly a month since Robert Bret, Executive Director of the Florida Self Storage Association, passed away. Bret, 40, died on June 7th while vacationing in Jamaica.
Robert Bret had been Executive Director of the FSSA for three years and by all accounts was a gentle giant. In a letter written to FSSA members, President Lewis Pollack stated, “Robert was a quiet person and very dedicated in all aspects of his life. As big as he was physically, he was a softy. His quiet way and soft spoken manner belied that big physical presence. He was truly a gentle man.”
On June 29th, a military funeral was held in Lake Worth, FL for the Army and Navy veteran. As friends and family gathered to pay tribute, donations were being collected to fund a different cause.
Bret has a young daughter, Kylie, who is 13 years old. Donations were requested to aid a college fund with a goal of $10,000. The fund is organized by Bret’s sister, Nicole Handy and the fundraising website is YouCaring.com. As of this week, over $4000 has been donated.
Nicole Handy painted the picture of Robert being Kylie’s entire world. On the website she writes, “Unfortunately, Robert was not prepared to leave this world so soon. We know he would want Kylie to attend college and would wholeheartedly approve of this fund for her. As a family, we have decided that in lieu of sending flowers for his memorial service, Robert would want any contributions to go to help Kylie instead.”
The SelfStorageFinders.com crew never had the pleasure of meeting Robert Bret but has heard stories from others in the self storage industry echoing the statements above. We offer our sincere condolences to the FSSA, his friends and most of all the Bret family. We know he will be missed.
