Around the country more and more self storage facilities are embracing the technological advances in the storage industry. Self storage kiosk’s can be found at many facilities, storage management software makes inventory and invoicing easier on managers, storage aggregators aid consumers and storage owners and now more and more facilities are using online reservation systems on their own websites.
The demand for self storage continues to climb and in order to keep pace with tech savvy consumers, storage facilities must adjust to the needs of consumers. One way to do so is with an online reservation system. Storage renters want to be able to view as much information online prior to renting a storage unit. Being able to view several storage facilities in the area, compare different unit sizes, prices, availability and amenities from a computer or smartphone is a must. Consumers want to be able to research, compare and reserve a storage unit instantly without having to drive to the facility or call numerous facilities during their lunch break. If your information is not online and easily accessible, chances are consumers probably aren’t renting from your storage facility.
A quality reservation page should have all of the storage facilities pertinent information readily available. Data such as the facility name, address, phone number and email should be clearly displayed. Facility facts, units available, prices, amenities, office hours and other features should also be displayed. For an even better user experience feature reviews, maps and discounts for reserving online. The goal of a reservation page should be a convenient and easy way for consumers to rent a storage unit online without having to call any storage facilities to clarify information. Everything a potential renter needs should be clearly displayed and communicated.
Self storage isn’t a sexy industry but it is starting to go mainstream. Embracing technology and improving typical ways to reserve storage units are great ways to make the process easy and convenient for renters. Not all storage facilities have embraced online reservations or technology but most have and more soon will. Internet and smartphone reservations have exploded in recent years and new technology and ideas will give way to even more advancement and convenience. Where will new technology take the storage industry in 5 years? Time will tell.
