There are many reasons why people choose to use self storage. Some are in the middle of a divorce, some getting married, moving across country, a frequent traveler, spring cleaning, a business storing files or brave men and women needing protection for their belongings while they serve overseas. This is the ninth part in a series of tips for the most common self storage items.

Our previous sections focused on furniture, electronics, appliances, files and document, antiques, vehicles, seasonal storage and photographs. Today we focus on books, CD’s and DVD’s. Students, teachers, professors, businessmen and book lovers alike could have hundreds, if not thousands of books in their collection. Parting with any book in a collection would be unthinkable especially for a professor or teacher. Though CD’s are more of a thing of the past, DVD’s are still relevant for the time being. People may keep CD’s or DVD’s in storage to preserve memories or to relive the good ole days.

Books, CD’s and DVD’s Storing Tips:

The easiest way to store books, CD’s and DVD’s is to pack them into boxes. It is beneficial to use large but not big boxes so you can actually lift the boxes later. If an entire library of books is placed in one huge box, the box may be too heavy to lift and place in the storage unit. Be sure to label each box in order to retrieve the books at a later time. Place DVD’s and CD’s in their original cases if they are still available. Again, place the media in boxes and clearly label each box in order to easily retrieve them at a later date.

These helpful book and media tips should aid you in proper storage to keep your CD’s, DVD’s and books safe and secure over time. lists thousands of self storage facilities across the country to help you preserve your media collection.
