Sort through your belongings, separating items that you think people will buy, selling items that may not be of use to you anymore or items you have multiples of. Some neighborhoods and cities have designated weekends for garage sales, if not contact your neighbors, friends and relatives to come over. If you’re neighborhood doesn’t have rules and regulations against posting, put some signs up directing people to your house, you can also place ads in the newspaper or online to draw in a larger crowd.
If you have items left over from your garage sale, donate it to a local charity. Giving your belongings to charity infuses them with new life and helps those less fortunate. Your preloved items will go a long way benefiting others in your community and you’ll feel at easy knowing that your belongings are being used for a great good.
Some items will be harder to give away, like an antique dining room set, a family heirloom which you can’t bear to part with. If these items don’t exactly fit in your new house self storage is an excellent and affordable solution, place your belongings in self storage until you can decide what to do with them.
